The Floor Is Ours.

A global federation built from the ground up, by the community, for the community.

Breaking has always been a movement of the people. We didn't wait for permission to start, and we don't need permission to grow. The International Organisation for Breaking (IOB) is here to provide the structure that reflects who we truly are.

We are a not-for-profit association based in Switzerland, created to represent, develop, and promote Breaking internationally.

Our goal is to assert agency over Breaking's future.

A Message From Our Community

"Breaking remains authentic, self-governed, true to its roots"

A Call to Action

Dear fellow Breakers from all corners of the world,

I am reaching out with a vision and a call to action. Our art form, Breaking, has become a global phenomenon, celebrated and practiced across cultures and continents. Yet, many of us recognise the urgent need for collective action. If we do not organise ourselves politically and establish a governing body created by the community for the community, Breaking will remain vulnerable to exploitation, misrepresentation, and control by institutions that prioritise their agendas over the essence of our culture.

This is an invitation to begin a dialogue—one that I hope will ignite a movement. Together, we have the opportunity to reclaim agency over Breaking's future. This may start small, as a simple alliance, but every great achievement begins with a single step. If we commit to taking those steps together, we can create something truly powerful and lasting.

Over the past few years, many countries were compelled to organise their competitive Breakers into NGOs, associations, or enterprises to meet the demands of partnering with the institution tasked with organising Breaking for the Olympics. While this has been challenging, it has also provided a foundation. These national Breaking organisations now understand what it takes to establish control and advocacy. With this groundwork in place, we have an unprecedented opportunity to unite these efforts into an international, self-determined network.

However, I propose that we aim higher than simply creating another sports organisation. Instead, let us establish a cultural federation, where sport is just one subset. By doing so, we can ensure that Breaking has a legitimate voice in not only the sports arena but also in cultural, artistic, lifestyle, and other domains. This approach will honour Breaking's multifaceted identity and way of life.

Let us take that first step—together. I invite you to join this conversation and contribute your vision, experience, and passion. Together, we can lay the foundation for a future where Breaking remains authentic, self-governed, and true to its roots.

In solidarity,
Storm
